Busy Bees in the Garden

by Noelle on September 28, 2012

Nothing makes me quite as happy as seeing bees busy in the garden…

These bees were busy collecting pollen from a flower in the ‘Happiest Place on Earth’ (Disneyland).

You can tell that they were happy….there were four of them collecting pollen from a single Icelandic Poppy.

You can see the pollen that this busy bee has already collected from this Begonia.   Bees have a special area on their hind legs called ‘pollen baskets’ where they store the pollen they collect.

This honeybee is definitely enjoying the pollen from these Rabbitbrush flowers.  You can see its ‘pollen baskets’ on its hind legs as well.

So, what type of flowers do honeybees enjoy in your garden?

You can learn more about honeybees and other beneficial insects in this informative Birds & Blooms article.

Hi Noelle, There are many flowers in my gardens the honeybees visit, but for sure, I’ve found they just ADORE my orange
butterfly weed!
