Do you have slugs in your garden?
Maybe you aren’t sure because you haven’t seen any. BUT, if the leaves of your plants have holes eaten in them – then you may have slugs.
Slugs are very good at hiding and come out at night. Thankfully, there is an easy and eco-friendly way to get rid of them and believe it or not, you may already have the solution to your slug problem.
So what is this solution? BEER!
No, it’s not a typo. Beer really is a great, natural solution to help get rid of slugs in your garden.
The slugs are attracted to the smell the yeast and barley in beer. So, if there is beer in the garden….they will flock towards it.
The slugs climb into the beer where they drown. Now, I don’t know if they are drunk before they die, but I’m sure it would be easier for them that way.
Now, you don’t have to use your own dishes to trap them. You can always use used plastic containers like your old margarine container.
Snails and slugs aren’t picky about what brand of beer you buy. My mother buys the cheapest beer she can and has even found some at our local dollar store.
Snails and slugs like to come out at night, which is when they will head for the beer. My kids kind of found it fun in a gross sort of way to watch.

I use diatomaceous earth to deter slugs and snails. I think it is easier to sprinkle it around the base of my plants than using beer – and doesn’t smell! ;o)
How do you get rid of those rolly polly bugs that live under my flower pots an crawl under the screen into my bathroom.
Does anyone know how to keep stray cats out of my garden. We live out by ourselves and we always have strays. Please help!!
I’ve also used beer to get slugs out of and away from the garden. I just don’t think it looks too inviting with the bowl of beer in with the succulent.
You can buy a box at WalMart you can sprinkle in your garden and you will not have slugs. It work great and does a great job I don’t know the name but it does say it will remove slugs on the front of the box.
Yes, I have done this and it does works. I suggest that if you don’t drink beer to get the cheapest you can find it works just as well and you haven’t spent a lot of money because; a little goes a long way with slugs. Thanks, Elaine
