Soil Solution Clay Soil – In just three months I have turned my adobe clay soil into great planting soil. I have been tilling in equal parts of composted steer manure and very fine bark. The bark adds some aeration to the soil and breaks down the clay clumps, and of course the manure is valuable compost. The difference is amazing! I have a beautiful new perennial garden in soil that I couldn’t get a shovel into last year, we were planting with a pickax.
Hi, I was interested in reading the article noted on the cover of the July issue “plant natives for orioles” – but could not find the article anywhere in the issue.
In your July 2012 magazine on page 58, you have the Just For Fun article, I would like to submit a caption for the chicks and the egg. Mom said, the reason why it’s taking so long for our brother to hatch is, because he’s really shy.
“You don’t say” comment on the chicks looking at the egg:
I think he’s adopted!
Where exactly at birdsandbloomsblog.com am I supposed to enter a caption for the picture in the July 2012 issue????
My caption suggestion is, “Do you think this is a good time to tell him he’s adopted?”
You should make it easier to find. I don’t have time to search in every section of the site.
Where are the directions promised on the bottom of Page 11 Birds & Blooms Extra July 2012? I’ve looked all oer for the leaf birdbath, but find nothing. Please help…
look above the comments; to the right of the picture (July issue)…leaf birdbath instructions
Diane, I couldn’t find it either but googled the words birds and blooms leaf birdbath and finally found it. Here’s the link: http://www.birdsandblooms.com/backyard-projects/small-garden-projects/leaf-birdbath.
To find the chicks and the egg, search “Chicks and A Egg” at the top of the page and it will bring it up.
Regarding your July 2012 issue, page 66, Did You Know, about butterflies, I have raised butterflies for 35 years and have never had a butterfly with six legs. The Monarch has FOUR legs. Your picture shows two butterflies on a daisy with four legs each. Have you looked at a butterfly lately???
