The other day, I was visiting the nursery section of our local big box store and I saw a shopping cart full of discarded plants.

So, what do you do when you see plants that are to be thrown away?
Are you tempted to take them home and ‘nurse’ them back to health?
Or do you simply pass them by?
I knew a woman who had an entire ‘hospital’ section of her garden, located underneath the canopy of her willow tree.
Plant Hospital
She kept the plants in their pots until they came back to life under her care.

In fact, she did so well sometimes that the plants rooted through the drainage holes into the soil beneath, like the basil plants below.

So, are you tempted to bring sick or neglected plants home and nurse them back to health?
**Many nurseries have a discounted section where you can find plants like these.
So what will you do?

The plants that look like they are in need of the most care are always the ones that really thrive when I bring them home!
My mother does that!! I think it is the sweetest thing!
I bring them home…..I have so many that have added a beautiful touch to my backyard gardens. There are some that don’t make it but the ones that do make it all worth the rescue!!!
Walmart throws their plants away if noone buys them once their half off.
They have a bad habit of having the employees water them every day and that is most of the problem. I have told that to a couple different managers at the stores and they still over water their plants.
I asked a couple of department store nursery attendants about those to-be-discarded plants. Their responses were that they cannot give them away, or to reduce their prices because that will be mess up their inventory system. One attendat told me to wait for a garbage truck to come by to snatch those plants right before they haul up into their truck! He must have thought that I was some kind of juggler to catch them up in the air.
I just wanted to save those poor plants they could still have their life restored before they are dumped.
