Wildflowers often seem magical to me. They seem to appear overnight – a grassy meadow suddenly filled with bursts of radiant color; a dappled woodland floor speckled with delicate vibrant hues. Coming across these hidden special places can feel like a gift. So I was pleased to discover that the U.S. Forest Service has put together a website, Celebrating Wildflowers, that includes lots of fascinating information along with comprehensive lists of wildflower viewing areas across the country.
Another outstanding online resource is the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center website, which has detailed profiles of more than 7,000 wildflowers. The center itself is in Austin, Texas, but if you’re not close enough to drop by for a visit, you can visit the What’s In Bloom page to see what’s filling their gardens each week.
