Do they give out Oscar or Emmy awards for YouTube music montages? If anyone knows, please send the information my way because we are about to embark on a great adventure. We are creating a music video of people who love birds and are willing to dance about it! We like to think of it as a PSA on birding.
If you’re wondering what the heck I’m talking about, don’t worry. This is the reaction I get from most of my friends and family when I try to explain it. But then I show them this…
…and they’re like: ooooo, ahhhhh, I get it now.
Now I realize it’s no easy task to create a genius video like the Pink Glove Dance. But I’m giddy and hopeful and excited. [Insert inspirational quote here about what if Einstein or Beethoven would've given up.]
So now it’s really going to happen. Next week, we’re going to the Biggest Week in American Birding. We’re downright thrilled to be there May 4-6 to go birding, meet readers, raise money for young birders and more. And now we’re going to be shooting a video while we’re there, too. And we could really use your help and encouragement. (Seriously, we’ve already had a few dozen “what are we thinking” moments.)
We already have our song picked out, but we’re not going to share it quite yet. We need to have some element of surprise! But send us your ideas, thoughts and just overall words of encouragement for the video. What are fun ideas we should be shooting? How do we spread the word about birding? What are some fun dance moves we could have people do? Can you think of any props we should include?
Leave a comment in this post here. And if give us a great idea that we hadn’t thought of yet, I will personally contact you to tell you how awesome you area (and you might get a little something something, too)! Then look for the final video in the upcoming months. We’re partnering with Cornell Lab of Ornithology on the whole thing, and they’re going to help us make the magic happen.
And if by chance you’re going to be at Biggest Week, stop by Black Swamp Bird Observatory on Saturday, May 5. There’s a banding demo at 10. Then right after that, we’ll be recruiting people to dance for us. So you could end up in the video!
Yes, we might be a little optimistic and a lot crazy, but we’re sure going to have fun while we’re at it!

Morris Day and The Time used to have a fun dance called “The Bird”. Below is a link/clip from the Prince’s movie, Purple Rain. Pretty fun and catchy song/dance.
