Our Favorite Creative Bird Books

by Stacy (Editors' Blog) on January 5, 2012

In the February/March issue of Birds & Blooms, we featured some of our favorite bird books that have both gorgeous photos and intriguing info. So on a different note, we wanted to also share some of our favorite creative bird books.

The Artful Bird by Abigail Patner Glassenberg. If you know how to sew, this is a great project book for you. We love the bird patterns in this book. You’ll find a wren, crow, quail, swan, woodpecker, owl, flamingo and more.

Easy to Build Birdhouses by AJ Hamler. There aren’t a lot of new birdhouse books on the market these days, but this is one of them. It has a heavy woodworking focus but is a good resource if you’re looking for a mix of fun and useful patterns.

Little Birds: 26 Handmade Projects to Sew, Stitch, Quilt & Love. This book has handmade bird projects that have a contemporary style. It’s a great source for crafters who love birds.

Felted Feathered Friends by Laurie Sharp. This book shows you how to get involved in needle felting. The book hasn’t been released yet, but

I need a bird book that identifies male, female, & baby of each family of birds. We live in Oklahoma.

I know that my Sibley Field Guide to Birds shows male, female, and juvenile birds, but not exactly “baby” as in newly hatched. But it might be a good start to what you are looking for. They have Sibley guides for different areas.

Hello, I have composed and illustrated a book for my grandchildren to encourage them not to give up on things they thought were hard to do. They want me to have it published somewhere but I am thinking it would be expensive to do that. The book is about a Robin and how he finally decided to fly. I would like to send it to Birds and Bloom to see what you think. Terry

Please let me know when :Felted Feathered Friends by Laurie Sharp is released. I’d like to get one for my granddaughter. She’s learning to sew and has a lot of talent. She loves trying new things also. Thank you and much success on your book sales.

In your feb. March edition on Page 7, there is a swing at the top of the page could you tell me who makes the swing or how I can find out about it. I would like to have one for my back yard where I sit and watch the birds feed. Thank you for your kind and prompt attention.

This morning I was at the dentist office and was looking at the February/March issue which showed a picture of a bird bath and in the middle was a robin that was totally surrounded by birds which I believe it said they were from Tennessee. I am trying to remember the name of those birds which surrounded the robin as they are the same birds which we have here in our backyard eating the berries off of our ornamental Japanese bushes in Spokane Valley, Washington. We started seeing them last year and now again this summer where they come in a flock and are just all over these bushes. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated or I will just go back to the dentist office to ask to see their magazine again. Thank you so very much. Sherry 7-11-12
