by From the Editors on January 3, 2012

Did you know? Both male and female cardinals sing! Listen to both of their songs and learn about the differences by watching this video from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

Thanks for letting us hear the female cardinal’s song. I’ve heard that song in my backyard and often wondered “what bird is that?” Now I know! Thank you so much!

To me in Missouri this is the sound that Spring is here. Now I know which bird it is that makes the music.

What better way to spend a snowy winter morning than listening to bird song and think of spring. Loved the loon!

Greetings.
On the question of color of a Cardinal’s beak, while this one is orange, years ago when I rescued a young cardinal from my cat, and it thanked me by grabbing my finger peaking hard with its beak, it was BLACK!!?? No?
Happy birding,
Gillian

Thanks for this great info. Love these wonderful birds. I had 5 females and 3 males in my yard, one day this winter and they’ve brought their babies to feed in the summer. They bring so much pleasure in so many ways and are the state bird of my state (VA) and many others!

Why does it seem that no one records or even photographs the beautiful robins??? I think they have the most awesome voices in the bird kingdom, and they are a sure sign of spring for me! I tried to record them myself, but I did not have the right equipment so was unsuccessful. Major bummer!!!
