Steve Byland is one of our wonderful photographers for Birds & Blooms. Check out his website. Steve recently shared some pictures and a video of an albino hummingbird with us. We loved it so much that we had to pass it along to you!
Take a look at the video here.

Gorgeous!!!!
Unbelievable~~never ever seen anything like this in my life!!!
I didn’t think albinos had dark eyes? Still a beautiful little thing.
Yes, Linda, I agree with you. Albinos have pink eyes. I believe this a leucistic bird.
Actually, the light is bad so it’s hard to see, it does have red eyes, but it also has some very small amounts of color (grey) in the tail – not really a full albino, not really classic leucistic which tend to have dark bills and feet. Somewhere in between, leaning towards the albino side.
SO PRETTY!!!
I can sum this up in one word awesome .
What a wonderful oportunity, amazing.
It look like an angel hovering…
Awsome!
Just to add a touch of irony, there are three similar birds known to be in the US at the moment. One is in Virginia which is almost identical to this one. I actually know the person that found that bird and has been photographing it. A third is currently in Colorado. The world is a small place.
I like JoAnn’s comment! It does look like a mini angel! So cute!!
I think so too.
That’s the first thing I thought!
I love all kinds of birds and it is a joy to see the “angel” hummingbird at the feeder. My husband is out now feeding all the birds. I do really love the doves. Once I had 32 at my feeder.
Absolutely Beautiful.
I had a leucistic hummingbird in 2009…haven’t seen one since.
OH SO INSPIRING! I live in Va and haven’t had the pleasure to experience this gem.
Thank you so much for all your work (birds&blooms + Steve Byland) and devotion in photographing/filming what you do. It makes it such a joy and ease to connect to Nature and add beauty to my everyday life – talk about fulfillment! I feel inspired to mention that hummingbirds have a great symbolism attached to them as an animal totem. The Native Americans believed when a hummingbird appeared it was a sign to return to joy, to find the nectar in your life. Hummingbirds have long bills and tongues that enable them to extract nectar from flowers and so this is what inspired a part of their symbolism and why they act as a reminder to extract our own nectar – among other things…
Beautiful! Thank you again!
The hummer is white which is very unusual but is it an albino if it doesn’t have pink eyes?
I saw one hummingbird this spring and summer. I have all color and types of flowers but I just can’t get them to stay. The one we had for a second was green shades. I put our feeders out and no luck. Please give me some ideas to help them stay.

This video is amazing! Great job! Beautiful white wings looks like a tiny angel!
Wow! One might mistake this beautiful bird for a heavenly messenger! Amazing! =-)
Love to watch the birds are so fun the can do some amusing anticks.
We have two to four hummingbirds that came to our feeder this year, and they sometimes come to sit on our vines where I was growing watermelons. I just happened to open our front door and saw one hummingbird sitting on the vine and then the other came to another vine. Then they started flying around our porch. I wonder if they were thanking us for the sugar water we fed them with? It is so interesting to see them flit about our yard, and sometimes to come within inches of me when I sit on the porch.
These mini birdies are so facinating!
